A Photograph Summary

“A Photograph” is a poem written by a famous poet, Shirley Toulson. Here in the poem “A Photograph” the poet used to reminds the quality time she had been spent with his mother by looking at the photograph as like her mother used to be happy by looking at this photograph. And this a tribute for her mother from the poet side.

Here in this poem, the tile of the poem “A Photograph,” itself explains the verse as usually did by a photograph that is they remind our past. Here in this poem also the poet is trying to give the same feelings to readers.

In the first stanza, the poet says that the photograph shows her how the two small cousin sisters were holding each of her mother hand’s as she is the big sister among them, some twelve years old and they paddling in the sea beach. And all the three were stood still holding each other hands with their lovely smile on the face with their hairs over their face due to the wind blowing and posing for a photograph as their uncle is in the camera as a camera-man.

She also said her mother was charming at that time before she was born, she used to have a lovely face at that time. And she used to say that Sea always remains steady or same through, which appears not to change a bit while in the other hand the life of a people which used to change terribly with the time, which becomes up and down with the time.

In the Second Stanza, the poet said that her mother used to laugh very much by looking at their sea holiday photograph by saying that, ” See Betty and Dolly, how they were dressed us for the beach.” The poet said that her mother’s sea holiday was her past, but now her mother laughter is her past because her mother is no farther to look at that photograph and laugh. And she used to tell us that, now the common thing between her and her mother is that they both were worried and sad for their loss of past.

In the third Stanza, the poet said now her mother is no more in this earth; and her mother has died as many years as that girl lived which is in the photograph. And she said that after all this lousy event and unfortunate occurrence there is nothing to say at all. Now, there is everything silence and silence in the surrounding.
